Dutch man held for child pornography in India
CHENNAI: Police in southern India said on Monday they had arrested a Dutch national on charges of producing child pornography following a tip off from an international watchdog.
Will Heum, who previously ran an Indian orphanage, was picked up from his home in Chennai on Saturday after the Britain-based Child Exploitation Online Protection Centre alerted Interpol, Chennai police commissioner T. Rajendran said.
The 56-year-old was arrested on charges of producing and distributing pornographic child videos on the Internet, said M. Sudhakar, who heads the city police department’s cyber crime unit.
“The Cyber Crime Cell arrested Heum ... after identifying the offender by visiting his website” and using data from a government-run telecom provider, Sudhakar said.
Detectives seized compact discs, computer hard drives, memory cards and a laptop from Heum’s home.
Sudhakar said Heum had confessed to distributing videos of western children. During questioning, he said he was engaged in social services in India.—AFP
